Emergency fund
See how much of an essential-expense target is already saved, and when a monthly contribution reaches it.
22% funded
Target $18,000 from the sample essentials. Not financial advice.
How this emergency-fund estimate works
The target is essential monthly expenses times the number of months you choose. Progress is current savings divided by that target. The month-by-month path adds interest, then your contribution, until the balance reaches the target.
Questions
- What counts as essential expenses?
- Use the costs you would still pay if income stopped: housing, food, utilities, insurance, basic transport, and debt minimums. Wants are left out unless you type them in.
- How many months should the target be?
- People often plan for three to twelve months. The guidance card uses the job stability and dependents you enter as a rule of thumb. It is not a requirement.
- Does the APY change the date?
- Yes. Interest is added monthly at the APY you type, then the contribution is added. A higher rate reaches the target sooner in this model. It is not a bank quote.
- What is left out?
- Taxes on interest, inflation, job loss, and irregular expenses are not modeled. Nothing here is financial advice.
