Privacy

What The Calculator App stores on your device, and what it sends over the network.

What we collect

Effective date: October 27, 2026. We do not ask you to create an account, and we do not ask for your name, email, or phone number to use a calculator.

On the website, calculator math runs in the browser. The page writes the numbers you type into the address bar as a query string, so a refresh or a shared link reopens the same inputs. If you send that link, the recipient can read those numbers. If the site host keeps request logs, the address, including those numbers, can appear in a log.

If you choose Save, the scenario is stored in this browser under the local storage key mc-saved. That record holds a name, the calculator, and the inputs you saved. It is not uploaded. The site keeps up to 10 saved scenarios.

Two other local storage keys stay on this browser: fred-rates-cache, the last rates response so the page can still show a date if the next request fails, and app-banner-dismissed-until, the date when a dismissed “Get the app” banner may appear again. Our code does not set cookies.

On the iPhone app, calculator inputs, appearance, the last calculator you opened, favorites, hidden home tiles, and a one-time sample flag are stored on the device in UserDefaults (keys beginning with ledgerly. or hub.). Saved scenarios are stored on the device. Swipe left on a saved scenario to delete it. The app does not upload those records.

What stays on the device

Payments, schedules, and the other calculator results are computed on the device. The website does not send your inputs to us to be calculated. The iPhone app can calculate without a network connection. Saved results stay in the browser or on the phone until you clear site data, delete a scenario, or delete the app.

Live rates are the exception. The rates page and the mortgage “Use today’s average rate” button need a network request. If that request fails, the last saved rates response is shown with its date. If there is no saved response, the mortgage calculator shows example rates dated Oct 10, 2026, labeled as examples.

Third parties

The rates request goes to our own address, /api/rates. That server function then asks the Federal Reserve Bank of St. Louis (FRED) for public series: 30-year and 15-year mortgage averages, the federal funds rate, the bank prime rate, the 10-year Treasury yield, and the CPI index. The FRED API key stays on the server. Your calculator inputs are not sent to FRED. FRED’s terms and privacy policy apply to that request.

The website loads the Inter typeface from fonts.googleapis.com and fonts.gstatic.com. That request goes to Google.

The site is set up to be hosted on Cloudflare. A host can see ordinary connection data such as IP address, the page address, and browser type. We do not add our own analytics, advertising, or crash-reporting tool on top of that. No ad network is loaded, and a lender slot does not receive the numbers you type.

Children

The calculators are not made for children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children. There is no account to sign up for.

Choices

On the website, clear this site’s data in the browser to remove saved scenarios, the rates cache, and a dismissed app banner. On iPhone, delete a scenario from the Saved screen, or delete the app to remove what it stored on the device. You can skip the rates page if you do not want the rates request. Share links contain the numbers in the address; do not send a link if you do not want someone else to see those numbers.
